dari jemapoh ke manchestee

DARI JEMAPOH KE MANCHESTEÉ, also known as Dari Jemapoh Ke Manchester (From Jemapoh to Manchester), is a cult road'n'roll movie by Malaysian filmmaker and political writer Hishamuddin Rais.

Shot in early 1997, the film premiered at the 1998 Singapore International Film Festival (SIFF) on April 26th 1998. It went on to appear at several European International Film Festivals through-out 1998/99 before enjoying a brief run at two cinemas in Singapore January 2000.

After a long wait due to various complications, the film finally had a proper-but-limited run in a few main Malaysian cinemas starting on August 2nd 2001 – at the time, director Hishamuddin Rais was still under detention courtesy of the government's Internal Security Act.

Dari Jemapoh Ke Manchesteé's audio soundtrack was released earlier on in 1998 by independent label AGE, and enjoyed quite a successful run, selling for about 4,000 copies before the label's nationwide distributor closed shop in year 2000.

It was rereleased as limited edition CD-Rs in August 2001 when the film finally appeared on Malaysian soil, at Golden Screen Cinemas, Mid Valley Shopping Complex and TGV KLCC in Kuala Lumpur.

The film was also shown at a few local universities and also cinemas in Penang and Johor. It was later released on VCDs and available at all the Speedy Video outlets for a few months before it disappeared.

At the moment of writing, both the VCDs and soundtrack CDs are now pretty hard to find.
